A few days ago I bought Railworks 3 Train Simulator 2012. I did it despite reading some reviews that said that without a state of the art computer (very modern graphics adapter and i7) the simulator was a disappointment.
Well, I dont think so. My computer is an Athlon X2 250 at 3Ghz. I upgraded from my onboard GeForce 8200 to a cheap GeForce GT 520.
That graphics upgrade was very much worth it, and now my system runs the simulator very well. That is, I use “medium” settings for antialiasing and stuff, and highest details. I think it looks good and runs smoothly at 1280×1024. Perhaps better hardware could improve things even more, but I would not discourage anyone from getting the game with the above configuration. The GeForce 8200 did not really do a good job though, although still very playable.
Admittedly, I did not use the “Train Simulator 2012 Game Engine Technology” (for better light and shadows). Perhaps this means that I basically run the old version of the game (?). Nevertheless, the upgrade was free (for those with the old version), so dont think anyone should complain.
